Up until 1969 Sharm El Sheikh was a small fishing village. Over the last few years it has become one of the most visited destinations in Egypt. People choose Sharm El Sheikh as it's perfect for luxury holidays and offers stunning beaches and perfect weather.

If you dig deeper you will discover amazing historical attractions and religious wonders too. After a day at the beach why not visit one of the following attractions to make your Sharm el Sheikh holidays even more memorable.

Mount Sinai - Is the name of a group of peaks where God allegedly spoke to Moses, who then received the Ten Commandments. Pilgrims have flocked to this area for thousands of years. As you climb to the summit you will come upon a natural Amphitheatre where the wise men waited while God spoke to Moses, then finally a small Mosque and Chapel await you at the top. There are two routes that guide you to the summit, both starting at St Catherine's Monastery. The first trail (Siket El Basha) is probably the easiest but a little bit longer in length. The second route which is called the path of Lord Moses (Siket Sayidna Musa) takes longer to climb and involves ascending many steps. Both routes will take in between 2 to 3 hours to climb depending how fit you are.

The Chapel of the Burning Bush - At St Catherine's Monastery, the Biblical Bush is probably one of the most popular sights in Sharm El Sheikh. The bush was said to have set on fire when God spoke to Moses for the first time. Empress Helen the mother of Constantine had the chapel built in 6AD and her remains are said to be found at the top of the peak, five hundred years after she was carried away by the Angels.

Ras Mohammad National Park - The national park is located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula approximately 20km from Sharm. Ras Mohammed National Park is not only famous for diving and snorkelling but also for its mangroves which are essential for the Eco system of the area. You can also take a boat trip where you can see turtles, Lion fish, puffer fish and plentiful varieties of marine life and coral. Please bear in mind you will need to purchase a visa on entry to Sharm if your planning a visit to the National Park.

These are only a few suggestions of places that may interest you in Sharm. Why not do a little exploring yourself and see what other delights you can uncover.
